A Map Of How Far The Proclaimers Are Willing To Travel

The Proclaimers, if you don’t know, are the Scottish musical duo of identical twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid. Their song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, is the Scottish national anthem and the song of choice for drunk people walking home at 2 in the morning.

We thought that it would be interesting to see exactly how far The Proclaimers are willing to travel, if we go by the lyrics to their song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”

As you can see, they are willing to walk 500 miles and 500 more if need be. If we go by the first red circle (500 miles from Leith in Scotland) then they will have trouble staying on dry land. The furthest they could get before reaching water would be Lands End, which is not 500 miles in a straight line.

They would then have to get on a boat that would travel at their own walking pace (4.76 miles per hour) while they walk up and down the boat for the whole duration on the journey. This would be the only sensible way of sticking to the rules of the song.

Traveling 500 miles more on top would take them as far as Poland, Iceland, Spain and Sweden! I’d travel to Sweden if the women looked like this..

rather than the Scottish talent that The Proclaimers are used to.

If you’ve never heard the song before, here it is…
